Gunsmithing & repair
Diagnostics, repair, cleaning, and upgrades on the bench. You get an honest assessment before any work starts — if it isn't worth fixing, we'll tell you that too.
Most of what you own, most of what's wrong with it
Cross Arms does general gunsmithing on handguns, rifles, and shotguns — the everyday work that keeps a firearm running, plus the occasional rescue of something that has been sitting in a closet since the Carter administration.
- Function diagnostics — it won't feed, won't extract, won't fire, or does something it shouldn't
- Repair and parts replacement — extractors, ejectors, springs, firing pins
- Optics and sights — scope mounting, boresighting, night sights, red dots on an existing cut
- Trigger and action work — installations on handguns and bolt guns, action jobs on revolvers and 1911s
- Cleaning — from a routine detail clean to heavy rust and neglect
- Barrel work — crowning, threading, chamber work
Machine work in-house
There's a lathe and mill here, which matters more than it sounds. A lot of shops send machine work out, which adds a week and a markup. Work that needs metal removed gets done here.
What we won't do
Cross Arms holds a dealer license, not a manufacturing license. Assembling a complete firearm for a customer falls under manufacturing, so that's off the table — though we're glad to walk you through your own build. We'll also tell you when a repair costs more than the gun is worth, rather than taking the job.

Repairs & parts

From drop-off to pickup
Call or book a drop-off
Tell us the make, model, and what it's doing. Some problems we can diagnose over the phone and save you the trip.
We look it over
A real inspection, not a glance. Sometimes the fix is smaller than you feared; sometimes it's bigger. Either way you hear it straight.
You get a number before work starts
A quote covering labor and parts. Nothing happens until you say go, and if the job turns out worse than it looked, you get another call — not a surprise at pickup.
Work gets done here
On the bench in Linn Grove, by the person you spoke to. Machine work included.
Pick it up
We'll call when it's ready and walk you through what was done.
Before you bring it in
Do I need an appointment?
Yes — everything here runs by appointment so you're not waiting on someone else's job. Call or book online and we'll find a time, evenings and weekends included.
How long will it take?
Depends entirely on the job and whether parts have to be ordered. You'll get a realistic timeline with your quote, not an optimistic one.
Do you work on older or obsolete guns?
Often, yes. Parts availability is usually the limiting factor, not the work. Bring it in and we'll tell you honestly whether it can be brought back.
Can you fix someone else's bad work?
Frequently. Prior amateur work adds time, and the quote will reflect that, but it's a common reason people end up here.
What if it isn't worth fixing?
Then we'll say so. You'll pay the diagnostic fee and leave with an honest answer, which is cheaper than sinking money into a gun that won't return it.
Got something that needs attention?
Call and describe it, or book a drop-off. Either way you'll get a straight answer about what it needs and what it costs.
